Hawai’i Montessori Schools – Kamuela Campus is proud to present our 19th Annual Earth Day Rummage Sale at our campus on Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7:00 am – 12:00 pm

HMS Kamuela Campus is located at 64-1058 Mamalahoa Hwy., in Waimea (next to the Big Island Brewhaus). Items for sale include children and adult clothing, housewares, toys, books, electronic equipment, small appliances, furniture, office supplies, etc. We will also be having a bake sale which includes Mamane Bakery’s Famous Cake Loaves and Portuguese Sweet Breads.

If you have gently used items that you need to pass on then please drop them off beginning Monday, April 16th.

Hawaii Montessori Schools – Kona Campus will hold an Open House on Wednesday, April 11th, 8:30 – 10:30 am.

Families of current and prospective students between the ages of 15 months – 6 years old are invited to attend an Open House from 8:30 – 10:30 am., on Wednesday, April 11th at 74-978 Manawale’a Street, Kailua-Kona. Families will have an be able to visit classrooms, meet current families, learn about the school and its programs, including financial aid opportunities, and meet faculty members and administration

Hawaii Montessori Schools has been part of the West Hawaii community since 1980. The school provides quality education for children ages 15 months through 6 years of age using the principles and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori. The classroom environments are well prepared and allow the children to develop at their own speed, according to each child’s own capacities in a non-competitive atmosphere. Learning takes place through the child’s own discovery and experience. Observers of Montessori students have described them as having developed self-discipline, self-knowledge, self-esteem and independence, as well as enthusiasm for learning, an organized approach to problem solving, and academic skills. Kamuela, April 3, 2012 – Hawai‘i Montessori Schools – Kamuela Campus has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.

“We are proud to be accredited by NAEYC and recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,” said Angeline Geldhof, Executive Director of Hawai‘i Montessori Schools. “NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our programs are getting the best care and early learning experiences.”

Hawai‘i Montessori Schools has provided quality education for the children of West Hawai‘i since 1980. We have enriched environments and trained staff to help each child develop their natural gifts. Dedicated to creating collaborative classrooms and work communities that enhance every individual’s contributions, we provide an excellent start for our young children. Our programs serve children from ages 15 mos. to 6 years of age; Toddler Program (ages 15 – 36 mos.) and Primary Program (ages 3 – 6 years). We are also proud our partnership with the Department of Education to provide an Inclusion Program for children with Special Needs in our Kona Campus Primary Program. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the DOE in the next School Year. Our Mission at Hawai‘i Montessori Schools is educating children for life by providing a nurturing, prepared environment where children, parents and staff joyfully develop their esteem, discipline, independence, motivation and community responsibilities to their fullest potential.

NAEYC created its accreditation program in 1985 to set professional standards for early childhood education, and to help families identify high-quality early education programs. To earn NAEYC’s accreditation, a program conducts a self-study to determine how well it meets the standards. After necessary improvements are made, the program is observed by independent, professional assessors, and then reviewed by a national panel. Programs are accredited by NAEYC for a five-year period. “By earning accreditation, Hawai‘i Montessori Schools has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start.”

On the Island of Hawaii there are 14 Early Childhood Programs that are accredited by the NAEYC: All Kamehameha Preschools – Islandwide, Hawai‘i Community College Children’s Center – Hilo, YMCA of Hilo, Hawai‘i Montessori Schools – Kona Campus and now Hawai‘i Montessori Schools – Kamuela Campus.

6th Annual Kona Brewers’ Festival Golf Open at the Big Island Country Club, March 9th

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii — The sixth annual Kona Brewers Fest Golf Open tees off at Big Island Country Club Friday, March 9, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The charity golf tournament is the jump start for the 17th annual Kona Brewers Festival to be held the following day, Saturday, March 10.

Golfers of all levels are welcome to play at this four-person scramble. Handicaps will be averaged; no minimum drives. Mulligans will be available for purchase at check-in. Dozens of prizes will be awarded. Big Island Country Club is 30 minutes from Kailua-Kona, Waimea or Kohala Coast on scenic upper Highway 190.

Cost per golfer is $150, which includes green fees for 18 holes of scenic golf, golf cart, welcome bag, continental breakfast, box lunch and awards ceremony with pupus. Preregister by downloading a registration form from the festival website, www.KonaBrewersFestival.com. The Kona Brewers Fest Golf Open is organized by the Hawaii Montessori Schools parent organizations. The 17th annual Kona Brewers Festival, Presented by the Bill Healy Foundation and sponsored by Community Hero Sponsor: Sunetric, Alaska Airlines, Kina’ole Sponsors: First Hawaiian Bank and Keauhou Veterinary Hospital, is a community fundraising event that promotes the craft brewery revolution in Hawaii and encourages professional brewers and chefs to work together.

12th Annual Keiki WinterFest and Silent Auction

Families can kick off the holiday season at our 12th Annual Keiki WinterFest at the Keauhou Shopping Center on Saturday, December 3rd, 10:00 am-1:30 pm. Pre-Sale Coupon Books are available at Hawai’i Montessori Schools Kona & Kamuela Campuses and Los Habaneros – Keauhou Shopping Center.

The event will begin with the Hawai’i Montessori Students’ Holiday Performance at 10:00 am. Children can chose to make an assortment of festive crafts at the craft tables, win prizes at a variety of everyone-wins game booths, play in a party bouncer, slide down a 20ft slide, make their way through an obstacle course, have their face and hair painted and can enjoy horseback rides. The whole family will enjoy browsing the sweets and savories at a sumptuous bake sale as well as the various vendors and businesses of the Keauhou Shopping Center. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be making a special appearance.

Hawai’i Montessori Schools will be hosting the “Desserts” booth at the Kona Coffee Marketplace–Festival of Artists and Ethnic Foods. Come and join us and other community groups as we offer a variety of ethnic foods and crafts at the Makaeo County Pavilion (Old Airport Events Pavilion) on Saturday, November 12th, 9:30a-3:30p

Attendees will also have a chance to enjoy Hawaiian soulful recording artist Paula Fuga for a 90-minute concert. Paula will be accompanied by Michael Love, guitarist.

A $3 Festival button is required for attendance and will be sold at Makaeo County Pavilion.

The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. There will be lei making activities for the children, demonstrations by the Ranch’s Craftsmen, a Hula performance by the Hawai‘i Montessori School Students, live entertainment, a no-host bar and a fabulous silent auction featuring items from around the state and the mainland.

Tickets will be available for purchase in Kamuela at Hawai‘i Montessori Schools – Kamuela Campus, Mama’s House Thrift Store, Kamuela Liquor and in Kona at Hawai‘i Montessori Schools – Kona Campus. Cost is Adults: $30.00, Children 3 – 12 years: $15.00. Children under 3 are free with paid adult. Visit our Booth at The 3rd Annual Mango Festival at the Keauhou Beach Resort

Come and visit our booth at the 3rd Annual Mango Festival. We will have fun activities for the Keiki to work on, Montessori activities for them to explore, and free balloons and goodie bags.

Find mango activities, keiki games, ono grinds, arts and crafts, farmers market and continuous entertainment at the third annual Mango Festival 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Keauhou Beach Resort. The free festival celebrates Hawaii’s delicious and diverse mango varieties during the peak of the harvest season on the scenic, palm-fringed grounds of the resort’s Royal Garden.

The Mango Festival is a zero waste event and presented by the non-profit Sanctuary of Mana Ke‘a Gardens with support from the Keauhou Beach Resort.

First Place Winner in the 4th of July Parade Keiki Division

Hawaii Montessori Schools was very well represented in the Kailua-Kona 2011 Independence Day Parade. The children had so much fun waving and handing our goodie bags and balloons — it was a beautiful day! Thank you to everyone who came out to participate in the parade and for all the supporters along the parade route that cheered us on. We are very proud to have been awarded 1st Place Winner in the Non-Profit Keiki Division!

This year Hawaii Montessori Schools will join the 4th of July festivities by being a participant in the Kona’s Independence Day Parade. Come join us, wave to friends and hand out goody bags. This year’s theme is Celebrate Freedom. The parade departs from the Kona Kekuaokalani Gymnasium at 5:30 and ends at Walua Road just past the Coconut Grove Marketplace. Visit Hawaii Montessori’s Booth at the Keiki Fun Run at Kona Commons on June 18th

Hawai’i Montessori Schools will be part of the fun and entertainment at the 3rd Annual Keiki Fun Run held at the Kona Commons this Saturday, June 18. We’ll be giving out balloons and goody bags. HPD and Aloha Kona Kids will also be on hand to give out free Keiki ID Cards.

If you have friends or family who have school-age children, please be sure to tell them about it. It’s great fun for the whole family, and we’d love the opportunity to introduce them to Hawaii Montessori Schools.

Every Keiki is a winner at the the Fun Run and all entrants will receive a t-shirt, goody bag and a finisher’s ribbon. Registration for this event is between 6:30– 7:30am and the first race begins at 8:00am. For more information on the Keiki Fun Run, please visit the Kona Commons website.

JAPANESE FESTIVAL OMASTURI will be held on Saturday, April 30th, in support of Hawai’i Montessori Schools and its Japanese Program. In this festival, all Kona Campus students will be participating in various events. It would be a wonderful experience and fun for your child, your family, and your friends. Please mark the day and enjoy Japanese culture!

NOTE: A significant portion of the proceeds from this event will also be donated to fund relief efforts for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
